Hi - I’m Jennifer, and this is my website.
- Created with Eleventy, an open-source static site generator. Eleventy on Github.
- Theme based on the Smol 11ty Starter by Stephanie Eckles; updated to be compatible with Eleventy 2.0.2. Background colors are based on an old (now offline) theme from HTML5Up.
When I was a student, I got hooked on creating and designing web pages, and connecting with the world at large.
Back then, it was straight up html/css and hosting everything from a tilde-based home directory on *nix. Those experiences would significantly influence the rest of my life.
If I ever have time, I might add some posts about my experience with Eleventy. Although I considered adding a headless CMS, Eleventy has been such a pleasant SSG to use that I’m happy to edit the site directly via text files.
I’ve used a number of CMSes over the years: for headless, I’m most familiar with CraftCMS and Prismic.
For traditional LAMP setups, I’ve used Drupal and WordPress for many years. Before that, MovableType.
Of course there’s also Squarespace and other SaaS products.
But for a site like this, Eleventy works great without having to go through a CMS, and there’s no dependency on another JavaScript framework, either.
I highly recommend Eleventy as a lightweight, straightforward option if you’re okay with working with the CLI and Git. And if you’re new to the CLI and Git, and curious, why not give them a whirl?
